狛猫

参道の奥、拝殿前で狛猫がお出迎え。猫神様からみて右手の口を閉じた「にゃー」と、左手の口を開けた「しゃー」。

At the end of the approach, a pair of guardian cats welcomes you in front of the worship hall. From the Cat Deity’s perspective, the one on the right has its mouth closed, saying “Nya” (meow), while the one on the left has its mouth open, saying “Sha” (hiss).
